Face Tattoos Before It Was Easy

Brooke Candy arrived in 2012 like someone had dared the internet to look directly at something it claimed to want. A former stripper from LA with face tattoos and no interest in palatability, she made Das Me as something between a flex and a manifesto—cheap-looking and completely deliberate, her delivery lurching between rap and confrontation. The video lived in that specific early-2010s aesthetic that felt genuinely transgressive before transgressive became a marketing category. She didn’t soften anything. That was the whole point.
