Anthony Gonzalez has always worked in suspension—that moment before the flood, before the memory fully surfaces, before whatever’s coming finally arrives. The track off Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming builds the way a good last day feels: slowly, warmly, with a knowledge underneath it all that it ends. I’ve listened to it on planes, in cars leaving cities I wouldn’t return to, in early mornings that didn’t need to be explained to anyone. It doesn’t get smaller with repetition. If anything, it keeps finding new rooms in itself.
