Before Taste Reasserted Itself
The Bangarang EP arrived in December 2011, and for the next several months you couldn’t go anywhere without that sound—the wobble, the drop, Sirah’s voice cutting through on the title track like she was delivering a verdict. Skrillex was Sonny Moore before all this, screaming his lungs out in From First to Last, which made the pivot to dubstep feel like either a betrayal or a revelation depending on who you asked. Probably both. Two Grammys later, the argument about whether it counted as real music was already a waste of time. The drop had arrived, and the drop was winning.
