The Rooftop Sound

The Suzan are a Tokyo four-piece who make guitar pop that sounds like it was written during the last warm week of September and recorded before the feeling wore off. Ha Ha Ha isn’t about anything in particular, which turns out to be exactly what it needs to be—the laugh in the title less amusement than a full-body shrug at the strangeness of being alive and making noise. They have a quality that’s rare in this kind of music: they know exactly how much to leave out.
