Florence Welch in Full Armor

Breath of Life was written for the Snow White and the Huntsman soundtrack in 2012, and it’s very much a Florence Welch song—which is to say, it’s about ten sizes too big for the film it was made for. A dramatic, orchestral piece about being dragged back from wherever you were, it functions as a battle hymn written by someone who finds the spiritual dimensions of conflict more interesting than the narrative ones. Florence Welch has always made music that sounds like it belongs in a larger, stranger world than the one she’s actually in. Breath of Life just happened to find a film context that fit for once.
