Five Seconds of Borrowed Dark

George Lewis Jr. makes music that sounds like remembering something you can’t quite place—some specific 1986 feeling, filtered through too many cigarettes and a car ride you never wanted to end. Five Seconds sits exactly where Twin Shadow works best: that pocket of dread and longing where you already know something is gone even as it’s happening. The synths are borrowed from another decade but the ache is completely current.
