Iggy Igumenova, a Bulgarian model, became briefly internet-famous in 2012 by doing something that has reliably generated internet fame since roughly the beginning of internet fame: posting topless photos. The logic is brutal and simple and she wasn’t the first to use it. What was mildly interesting about her particular moment was how transparent the transaction was—no pretense of artistic intent, no editorial framing, no brand narrative attached. Just a direct exchange: visibility for skin. The internet found this refreshing, briefly, before moving on to the next one.
