Arvida Byström, Undisguised
Arvida Byström has built a career out of the image that makes people uncomfortable—not because she’s trying to provoke, but because she isn’t. The Swedish photographer and artist shoots herself and others with a kind of radical matter-of-factness: body hair, bare skin, the whole unapologetic package, somewhere between a beach snapshot and a quiet argument. At the beach, topless, she looks exactly like someone who stopped caring what you think about it, and that’s entirely the point.
