Guitars That Don’t Want to Be Liked

"Truth" sits near the end of Four, Bloc Party’s 2012 album, and it sounds like a band trying to remember why they started. The record was made quickly, without a label looking over their shoulder, and that freedom shows up in the guitars—angular, loud, not particularly interested in being liked. Kele Okereke sounds urgent in a way he hasn’t since the first album, the rhythm section hitting harder than the song technically needs. They were never going to be the band Silent Alarm announced, but this is a reasonable argument for what they became instead.
