Still Waiting, Still Fine With That
Scratch Massive—Maud Geffray and Sébastien Chenut—make music that sounds like the inside of a very long night. Waiting For A Sign does exactly what the title promises: it stretches out the moment before something arrives, and then, with patience that borders on cruelty, refuses to let that thing arrive at all. The waiting becomes the point. There’s a coldness to their production I find genuinely beautiful—synthesizers transmitting from somewhere slightly out of reach, Maud’s voice moving through it all like smoke in a corridor. I put this on when I’m not ready to sleep but have nothing left to say.
