God Told Her to Dress the Cats
There’s a video about Takako Iwasa in Tokyo who designs clothes for her two cats, Piru and Kotaro, then sells them in her own shop to other people who apparently need this in their lives. Her stated reason for getting into the business: God suggested it. Which, honestly, is a more defensible founding story than most startup pitch decks.
The video is charming in the way that only something genuinely, irreversibly unhinged can be charming. But it’s also a mirror. Somewhere in the footage of Iwasa dressing a visibly resigned cat in a tiny handmade outfit, I caught a clear glimpse of my own future—sitting alone in front of a smudged screen, feeling loved primarily because the animals need their bowls refilled and their litter scooped. They stare at you all day with that specific accusatory look that says they know exactly what kind of person you’ve become. I said distant future. I meant tonight.
