Kate Upton hit Sports Illustrated’s swimsuit cover in 2012 and the internet did that thing it does when something slips past its filters before it has time to form a considered opinion. The Cat Daddy video followed and that was essentially the argument concluded. She has a body built for a different kind of camera—old Hollywood proportions, the kind of figure that had a whole filmmaking language developed around it before fashion decided that column-shaped women were what photography wanted. She made the column era look like a long misunderstanding.
