All Aboard, No Ticket Required
Someone tagged a Stuttgart commuter train to declare it the official fare-dodgers’ wagon—entry strictly for passengers traveling without a valid ticket. Large letters, clean execution, fully committed to the bit. Whoever did it deserves recognition.
The transit authority probably didn’t share in the general delight, but there’s something genuinely satisfying about graffiti that functions as satire rather than just marking territory. The joke works because fare-dodging is one of those small civic rebellions almost everyone has either committed or seriously considered—you’re running late, the machine is broken, the fine is thirty euros but so is the monthly pass. The unofficial fare-dodgers’ wagon just makes that implicit arrangement visible and gives it signage.
No word on whether any commuter actually used it as legal cover. I like to think at least one person tried.
