The Right Song for the Wrong Morning

Lorde named her new single No Better and the title does the whole job in two words. It doesn’t promise anything—no chorus built for the cheap seats, no hook engineered for radio—just that low, slightly ominous thing she does where the beat feels like the ground shifting under you on a weekend morning before you’ve decided what kind of day you’re having. Pure Heroine came out three months ago and she’s already finding notes the album didn’t play. That’s a good sign, or a very good sign, depending on how you feel about a seventeen-year-old from New Zealand being better at this than almost everyone else.

Put it on before the coffee’s done. It’s that kind of Saturday.
