Not Everyone Out There Is an Asshole

When things get genuinely bad—not inconvenient-bad, but the kind of bad where the whole outside world feels like one continuous error—I watch rescue videos. Specifically the kind where someone finds a destroyed animal on a garbage heap and spends weeks nursing it back into something that resembles joy. It’s embarrassing to admit how much it helps. But there’s something in that specific arc—the fear, the patience, the slow return of trust—that cuts through whatever cynicism I’ve been marinating in.

Miley was found by Hope For Paws on a garbage dump, in the kind of condition that makes you feel briefly ashamed to share a species with whoever left her there. What follows is the part that’s hard to describe without sounding like a greeting card: they took her in, and day by day, they brought her back. The video documents all of it. It will probably wreck you a little. That’s the point.

Not everything on the internet is stupid. Sometimes I need the reminder.
