Twelve Months of Eros and the Casket
Polish coffin manufacturer Lindner has been producing an erotic calendar for five years running: twelve women, minimal clothing, posed across wooden caskets. The product being advertised is something you’ll eventually be buried in, but the marketing logic is coherent in its own deranged way—furniture gets photographed with attractive people, a coffin is technically furniture, therefore naked women on coffins. I’ve seen an erotic calendar for fishermen, and the coffin version at least has the virtue of a philosophical subtext. Eros and Thanatos, January through December, until you throw the thing away and order next year’s.
I have a specific curiosity about what February looks like. I can’t explain it. I just do.
