DENA Doesn’t Rush
Something is already working when a track called "Bad Timing" lands exactly right. DENA—Denitza, Bulgarian, signed to K7 Records—has been making this precise kind of R&B-adjacent pop for a few years now: Cash, Diamond Rings, Swimming Pools, tracks that know their own temperature and don’t oversell it. Bad Timing is quieter than those. Less surface tension, more pull. She’s in no hurry, which on a pop single in 2013 is almost a political act.
The debut album Flash is coming next year, and if this is where her head is—more restraint, more space around the voice—I’m paying close attention. The patience here feels earned rather than imposed. Waiting for that record.
