Japan Has Its Priorities Straight
Hooters as an American institution is already a strange proposition—a restaurant chain that exists in the particular zone where you’re technically there for the chicken wings but nobody is really pretending that’s the draw. Transplant the whole operation to Japan, where the aesthetics of cute and erotic have been refined over decades into something almost philosophical, add a beauty pageant, and it gets genuinely interesting. The 2013 Miss Hooters Japan competition did not disappoint. The contestants were, predictably, extraordinary.
