The Devil Is Already in There
There’s something perfect about putting INXS’s Devil Inside over footage from Westeros—Michael Hutchence’s voice dragging across shots of Cersei and Joffrey and the whole rotting court, the bass line carrying the weight of every catastrophic decision every character has ever made. The Season 4 trailer used it, and it worked better than it had any right to. The song is from 1987, a slow humid build about recognizing the corruption that lives inside human beings by default, and it fits a show that had spent three seasons arguing the same point with more dragons and throat-slitting. You know what’s coming. You knew before the trailer started. Hutchence knew too.
