J Moves Forward, K Moves Back
There’s a small pleasure in J/K navigation that I didn’t expect to care about until I did. It’s a vim thing originally—move down, move up, never touch the mouse—and it migrated into web interfaces via Gmail and Google Reader, where it turned out that keeping your hands on the keyboard while reading actually changes the texture of reading. Less friction. More flow. The trackpad is a constant interruption; keys just let you keep going.
I added it here via the Prev-Next Keyboard Navigation WordPress plugin. J steps to the next post, K goes back. It cost nothing but the time I spent convincing myself it was worth setting up, which was longer than it should have been.
