Hamburg in Three Stripes

Adidas Originals put out a city edition for Hamburg—white with red stripes, the name stamped in gold across the side. There’s also a brown and orange version, but the white is the obvious choice. Not even close.

City-branded sneakers are usually a cynical exercise in selling local identity back at a markup, the sort of thing that belongs in an airport gift shop. But this one is restrained enough to sidestep that. No skyline silhouette, no landmark print—just the name, three stripes, clean. Hamburg earns its own mythology: the harbor, the Reeperbahn, the music history. Putting the name on a white sneaker in gold doesn’t feel like a souvenir. It feels like a statement of allegiance.
