Your Design on Their Cotton

Uniqlo launched UTme!, a custom T-shirt design app that lets you pick colors, upload photos, and arrange them into something that gets printed on an actual shirt and shipped to you. The process is simple enough that anyone can do it, which is both the appeal and the slight terror of it—the world doesn’t need more personalized clothing, but the option is hard to ignore when it’s this frictionless. Considering Uniqlo built its whole identity on restraint and near-invisible uniformity, letting customers go loud and bespoke feels like a deliberate joke they’ve decided to be in on.
