Flat Kings and Queens

There’s a particular pleasure in watching someone reduce a complex thing to its essential geometry, and Mordi Levi—an illustrator and graphic designer from Israel—does exactly that with his low-poly portraits of Game of Thrones characters. Arya Stark, Daenerys Targaryen, Tyrion Lannister, Margaery Tyrell, Khal Drogo—all broken down into flat, angular planes of color that somehow read as more expressive than a hundred detailed oil portraits. They look like intricate papercraft, like something assembled from colored cardboard with tremendous patience.

As a designer I’ve always been drawn to the aesthetics of reduction—that specific moment when you strip enough away that only essential shapes remain. Levi’s work does that and makes it look effortless. I’d hang any one of these on a wall without hesitation.
