Summer by Proxy

It’s raining. The flat, purposeless kind that doesn’t even have the decency to be dramatic—no thunder, no real darkness, just grey and wet and the faint suggestion that this is what the rest of the year will look like. In these moments the options are: accept the mood, or find something to counterprogram it.

Every magazine apparently has a swimsuit issue now, and Surfing Magazine’s is shot by Jason Lee Parry, featuring Britt Maren. Salt water, warm light, a body that has no interest in the weather outside my window. The sun doesn’t actually come back. But Britt Maren is on the screen, and for now that’s close enough.
