Silence Has a Soundtrack Now
LP1 might be the best album that came out last year. "Two Weeks," "Lights On," "Preface"—tracks that feel like they were made in a room with no exits. FKA twigs has a talent for making music that sounds like it’s happening inside your chest rather than through speakers, and the video for "Pendulum" earns its place in that catalog.
Sexy in the precise, uncomfortable way that actually good art is sexy—not provocative for the sake of it, but genuinely charged with something. She’s suspended, constrained, moving in ways that suggest both restriction and total control, and the track underneath has that quality her best work always has: the feeling that silence would be unbearable without it. Put it on when you’re alone at night and need something to drown out whatever’s going on in your head. It does the job.
