Think Big, Crash Harder
Deichkind are Germany’s most reliably unhinged act—a Hamburg collective who’ve spent two decades weaponizing electronic music against good taste and sobriety and somehow made it feel like a civic duty. Their track "Denken Sie Groß" (Think Big) arrives in the spirit of a caffeine IV drip administered directly to the brain stem: you will survive the afternoon, the video insists, and you will do so at volume.
The accompanying clip is, naturally, a kaleidoscopic animated drug nightmare—the kind that makes you wonder what you ate and when you’ll feel normal again. Deichkind videos operate on a logic entirely their own, which is to say no logic whatsoever, just color and chaos and the absolute conviction of people who have fully committed to the bit. I find them deeply comforting in that way. There’s something reassuring about art that doesn’t want anything from you except your attention and your willingness to be briefly overwhelmed.
Maybe that’s what I want from most things.
