Cheese Puffs and a Domain Name
My roommate Leni has been waiting for this moment with cheese puffs and ginger tea, which tells you something about both her patience and her approach to ritual preparation. She’s appeared in this journal before—as the emotionally unsteady co-inhabitant of our apartment, as my counterpoint in whatever argument I was currently losing—and before I arrived on the scene she had her own blog, a name I’m not going to repeat here because it rhymed terribly with "arrowheads" and the less said the better. That blog is at the bottom of a lake somewhere, which is where it belongs.
What she’s launching now is For the Story, a fashion and lifestyle blog running in three languages—German, English, and Russian—which means she’s going after the domestic market and two international ones simultaneously. This is either ambitious or delusional and I choose to believe it’s the former. Susie Bubble should probably be watching her back.
There’s something enjoyable about watching someone you live with decide to put themselves back on the internet. It requires a specific kind of renewed self-belief. In Leni’s case that belief is entirely warranted. The cheese puffs were a solid opening act. Now let’s see what comes next.
