December on a Different Planet

December in northern Europe is a specific kind of punishment—grey sky pressed flat against grey ground, the sun setting at three in the afternoon like it’s personally annoyed at you. And then there’s Gigi Hadid on a beach in Tahiti, looking like she’s in an entirely different hemisphere of human experience, which technically she is. Blue water, actual sunlight, that specific ease of someone who has never once worried about vitamin D deficiency. I’m not envious. I’m sitting here with my blackout curtains and my SAD lamp, quietly reconsidering all my life choices. Cocktails still help. Cocktails always help.
