The Walking Beanie Hat Problem
At some point in any YouTube spiral, the brain starts genuinely begging for something with a different texture. That’s where I found Minimalustig—a small channel doing something quiet and charming in a medium that rewards neither quality.
The concept is exactly what it sounds like. Mary makes short animated cartoons starring a version of herself—a walking beanie hat navigating ordinary student life. No pranks, no beef, no explosions. Just small, precise observations about being a person. The humor doesn’t try to scale, which is most of the reason it works.
There wasn’t much content up when I found it, but what was there made me want more in a way that most channels with fifty times the output don’t. Something about the restraint. The internet defaults to maximalism, and watching someone work in the opposite direction—doing less, meaning more—felt like a small correction to the feed. I fell a little bit in love with the walking beanie hat. What can I say.
