Thick Lips and the Ruins of Mibu

There are two camps when it comes to Katja Krasavice. The first will tell you she looks like what happens when you run a Czech-German internet personality through a tanning bed, a budget gym, and a cosmetic surgeon’s office before sitting her in front of a webcam. The second camp can’t respond right now, too busy repositioning the laptop on the bed for optimal sightlines.

To give credit where it’s due: Krasavice built one of the more genuinely successful YouTube followings of her era, for reasons that don’t require a research grant to understand. The logical next move, as it is for every online personality who hits a certain subscriber count, was music. Her song Dicke Lippen—Thick Lips—arrived with exactly the artistic ambition you’d expect from that career trajectory, and the kind of sound that belongs on repeat in every roadside rest stop between Hamburg and Munich.

Where things got genuinely interesting was YouTuber Mibu, who apparently found listening to the track a few times insufficient and instead ran a full 24-hour continuous playback session as a livestream. He finished. He survived. What exactly he came out the other side as is harder to assess. My honest prediction: somewhere around 2028, Mibu wakes up in a cold sweat and shouts Dicke Lippen at the ceiling. It never fully stops.
